Colorado Mountain Mama (and Claire too)
So I joined Colorado Mountain Mamas a couple months ago and I have completed 3 hikes so far. We’ve had to cancel a few due to weather, but they have been a lot of fun and I think Claire and I really enjoy it so far. Their website www.comountainmamas.com I actually heard about them 3 years ago in an copy of 5280 magazine, and I always swore that once I got to stay home with a baby, that I would join. And I did!!!
So this weeks hike was at Corwina Park, The Panorama Point trail. It’s located between Morrison and Kittredge on Highway 74. We started hiking at about 9:30 and got to the top an hour later. The views were great and the trail was in good shape, a few steps but mostly just a steady incline. (I should have taken my trekking poles!!) After only spending a few minutes at the top, we sensed the impending rain so we packed up FAST and started heading back down. It was quite steep (if I do say so myself) and so it was fast down the hill the whole way back to the car. After about 5 minutes of descending, it started to sleet! Of course, I had taken off Claire’s coat and hat at the top and not put them back on so my friend Sara was nice enough to put on Claire’s hat but we continued to jog back down as we were starting to get soaked. And of course I had left the rain cover in the car thinking it was such nice weather I wouldn’t need it. Ugh. Well, Claire was a champ, and although she was shivering, she never cried or whined about being cold. We got back to the car, unloaded, I changed Claire in to some warm jammies that were in her diaper bag, and snuggled her in to her seat for the ride home (about 45 minutes). She was snoring before we even got back on 74. She is such a good hiking buddy.
On the drive through the canyon, back to the city, I was overcome by gratitude for all the blessings in my life. Matt works so hard to provide for our family so that I can take Claire on these adventures. I am thankful for the desire and ability to go out in to the wilderness and experience God’s awesome nature, and of course Claire who is such a good kid- flexible, curious, and cute! Yeah God!
(these pics are out of order, but hopefully Matt can train me to fix that later!)
