To my wonderful husband…
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. My 28th Birthday was so special, and you did a great job planning everything. Matt took me out to the Melting Pot where 3 red roses were on the table waiting for me. He got a babysitter for Claire (Grandma, of course). He made a cd of songs “about us” which included his own personal commentary between each music selection. But the best part- (Matt don’t edit this out) he sang to me- Thank You For Loving Me. Are you asking yourself right now- isn’t that a Bon Jovi song? Um, yes it is. And Matt sings it perfectly. You’re the best husband ever.
By the way- I am waiting to post pics of Claire (there are so many). My computer guy reloaded my computer last week and didn’t put back all my programs. I really need to talk to his boss about that! So be patient- Claire pics coming soon.
Rocktober continues!
Their run is just unbelievable. I’m coordinating my computers to pound the Rockies website until I get tickets to the World Series. I can’t miss this. It’s too good to be true.
(Just FYI, I am copying the rest of this from: ESPN)
DENVER — This didn’t just happen. Did it?
That couldn’t have been Coors Field, shaking so hard Monday night that it must have knocked all the snow off the nearest Rocky Mountain tops.
That couldn’t have been the Colorado Rockies, dancing beneath the fireworks, pulling on those National League Champions T-shirts, the only National League team still standing in the second week of October.
This can’t be the Rockies — the Rockies — heading for their first World Series. Can it?
If you watch enough baseball games and follow enough pennant races, you come to think after a while that you have a grasp of what’s possible and what isn’t. And let’s be candid here:
This isn’t possible.
But on another magical autumn evening a mile above sea level, the impossible turned possible. The Colorado Rockies are going to the World Series. Just don’t ask how.
“I’ll be honest,” said shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, after the 6-4 win over Arizona that sealed a four-game sweep and propelled these Rockies to their first World Series. “We haven’t sat back once and said, ‘How’d this happen?’ We’re just enjoying it.”
And you know what? It’s better that way. It’s safer that way. It’s more fun that way. Because there are no good answers. So just don’t ask.
Don’t ask how a team on life support can suddenly start winning and winning and winning some more — until it looks up a month later, amidst the dripping Domaine St. Michelle, to find it has just won 21 of its last 22 games.
Don’t ask how a team that was a mere four games over .500 on Sept. 15 could make it here from where this team came from.
From nine games under .500 (18-27) in May.
From six games out in the wild-card race in September.
From 4½ games back in that wild-card race with only nine games to play.
Matt Holliday’s three-run homer capped off a six-run fourth inning for the Rockies in their NLCS-clinching win over the Diamondbacks.
From two games behind with two games to play, and having to watch that Padres team they were trying to catch get within one strike of clinching.
From two runs behind in the 13th inning of the 163rd game of the year, a game they never should have had a chance to play in the first place.
Has any team ever overcome all of that to play in a World Series? Not a chance.
15 weeks old… oh my!
Claire is the joy of our lives. She lights up the room with her giggles and grunts. She amazes us with her rolling over, and blowing bubbles. She is teaching us many new things everyday. One minute we think we have her on a schedule, next thing you know she is switching it up again. She is still sleeping through the night, but sometimes she doesn’t nap the WHOLE day. Not a big deal? Um no… she just gets a little slap happy about 7 pm. She is doing great with every new thing we challenge her with. She has started lifting her hips up and using her toes to push and scoot across the floor on her tummy. We put her in the church nursery for the first time Sunday, and she did great- apparently she just talked and cooed at all the nursery workers. She still loves going in her snuggli for walks around the park but now we have to put hats on to keep her warm in the evening. She doesn’t fit in her swaddling blanket anymore- so she sleeps without it. But now she rolls to her tummy almost immediately when we put her in her crib which makes me a little nervous but that’s how she sleeps most comfortable! She went with Matt to Daddy BootCamp last Saturday, as a “veteran” and the rookie (expecting) dads took turns changing diapers, holding the babies and getting advice from the other dads like Matt. Claire also razzle dazzled the other veteran dads by rolling over and being a good baby. She also took her first solo bath in the big bath tub. She likes watching the water fill up the tub, and watching the bright colored ducks float around. I help her practice her back floats and show her how to blow bubbles. She is getting so big and turning in to a beautiful little girl. Now if only we could find a Halloween costume for her?!
C is for Cute Claire
Not too much new this last week. Claire has started to laugh a little bit- it’s the cutest thing. She laughed at Matt and Sooner, and once when I was kissing the bottoms of her feet (she must be ticklish). It’s the craziest thing, and we try to do exactly the same thing again to make her repeat her little laugh, but she won’t do it. It’s only when she feels like it. But she is always smiling and cooing, and cooing mixed with drool sounds like “gurgle gurgle”. Also, she really likes the neon tag on her carseat, which is from the airport gate checkin (we flew to Kansas City last weekend). Matt tried to take it off, but I wouldn’t let him- she loves to stare at the bright colors and she even talks and smiles at it. I guess this goes along with- someday she is going to play with the boxes her toys come in and not the expensive toys. Right? We also went for a 4 mile hike on Saturday with Jennifer and Suri. Matt didn’t go because he was at the OU-CU game… don’t ask. But us girls sure had fun. Enjoy the pics. This weekend we are off to Topeka again.
