It’s amazing to me to watch the “Flip This House” or “Flip That House” shows on TV and think how quickly they go over budget. But after this month of trying to figure out how to finish our back yard before our HOA comes down on us, I easily see how it happens…

Our Original Budget was $2000, plus the cost of the A/C, so $4800.00.

Here’s how it’s turning out….

Sprinkler System – $425
Concrete Walkway – $1470
Retaining Wall – $500
Patio Furniture – $400
Air Conditioner – $2800
Stamped Concrete Edging – $400
Rock and organic topsoil – $600
Sod – $160
Garden Rock Wall – $575
Renting Home Depot Truck – $45
Trees – $275
Misc Yard Stuff (hose, etc) – $85
Labor – $100
Window Well Covers – ???
Shrubs – ???

Current Cost: $7960.00
New Estimated Final Cost: $8500.00

Pics coming soon, we have ‘em, just don’t have them posted, but lemme say the air conditioner was worth every bit of it.

Oh, did I mention we are accomplishing all this (with the exception of the Sprinker System that we installed last year ourselves) all in one month?

Yeah. Ridiculous.

Hope you guys are doing well in Colorado, Stefanie and I both would like to say hi. It has been a while since we last talked, probably the wedding in Little Rock. Anyway, congratulations on the coming of the Little Esser. We will be in Pamplona, Spain at the time the baby is due and perhaps I will be running with the bulls! Have a good night and hope to see you guys soon.

Read the backyard blues story. It is a rite of passage. Taming the wilderness for the family. Conquering nature so you can grow you own. Working your buns off for the rest of your life. Congratulations on a beautiful yard. You guys did great!
