Softball and Biking

So our church softball team isn’t the best. It doesn’t help that we entered the competitive league. Oh well, it’s fun. The only part I dislike is how many people we have on our team and I always get taken out of the game in the 3rd inning so somebody else can play. *sigh* Oh well. Our team record is like 0-5 or something.

Went riding 24 miles with Ryan on Memorial Day, that was pretty cool. Looking forward to doing that again in a couple weekends. We need to find a better route though because we had to jump over a few fences and pass our bikes over…haha…

Installing a Sprinkler System

In the beginning, there was dirt. A lot of dirt. In fact, it wasn’t really dirt because let’s be real, that would be too easy. No, in our backyard God created clay. So instead of seven days, it took Colleen and I ten. On the 11th day we passed out.

It all started with silly me wanting to put in a sprinkler system so that when we finish our backyard we wouldn’t have to water by hand. Sounds good right? Riiiiiiiiight….

Colleen and I drew out many maps of the backyard so that we were on the exact same page BEFORE we started. But of course my drawings are as much to scale as an old Godzilla movie. So we went to Home Depot last weekend to get some string and some spray paint to mark out the backyard. After getting ID’d for the spray paint, we came back home and began work on the backyard.

Digging in clay is a losing battle. It’s heavy, it can be hard as a rock and well, we didn’t have the right shovel. Another trip to Home Depot (this time Colleen’s sister went so I wouldn’t buy too many things) and 3 shovels and a rake later, we had the right tools. :)

Every night after work for an entire week my job was to dig dig dig. And dig I did. By the time Memorial Day Weekend started on Friday I was almost completely done digging.

Here are some pictures: (click on each one for a bigger size)

The trenches are dug, now it is time to get really dirty...This is the side of our house looking up from the sprinkler box.

Lost

Alright, so I admit. I’m addicted to Lost. For those of you who mistakenly watched American Idol instead of Lost, tonight was the Season 2 finale and it was good. The writers left us with a bunch of questions that can be summarized as follows: (comment if I missed anything, or if you have any input)

Are Michael and Walt really going to be rescued? Where are they heading? Will they turn around and/or go get help?
What was with that huge green bird?
So Fenry is infact “Him” ?? (Fenry is Henry Gale)
Are Eko and Locke dead?? (doubtful)
Is Desmond still alive??
Was Libby making the husband story up?? Also, is her husband Dave the same “crazy” Dave that Hurley was in the mental institution with, which explains why she was there in one episode?
Who were the people playing chess?
Did Kelvin know more than he let on?
How did the “Quarantined” door fall from the sky like that?
What is up with Charlie, his dialogue was not just the Lost writers filling up the final minutes of the season finale?
A four-toed statue foot???
What are the others going to do with Jack, Kate and Sawyer? Why them?
Is Penelope “in” on the whole island thing?
Is Pen’s dad running the Dharma Initiative or is he trying to stop it?
If the “Others” are the good guys, is that why Locke was trying to be recruited by Fenry? (Because Fenry said Locke was good)

Good grief. That’s not even all of them.

All I have to say is, I hope nobody on the island has a pacemaker.

Let me know your thoughts!

Landscaping

So, I guess it’s been five years since I last did landscaping. I have forgotten how much work it is to dig ditches for irrigation. Colleen and I have officially started working on our backyard. Last weekend we pulled up the netting that the builder puts down to keep out weeds and this weekend we drew a map (okay three maps) of our backyard and figured out how many tons of river rock we need, how many square feet of sod we need, where to put the tree, and where to place the garden. To me, planning is more work than just doing it because trying to agree on everything can be time consuming. We also have driven to a couple tree nursery’s and a couple rock/landscaping places to check out prices. The good news is that we will be coming in under budget now that we have figured out exactly what we need and where to get it from. (Neighbors are a big help!)

I’ll try to post some pictures after digging tomorrow to show progress…but if I don’t get to it I’m sorry, there’s just not enough time in the day!
